Snow contrasts

Some frustration...

The main road near us. Berkshire is running out of grit and salt. They can't get any supplies in from up north. Bracknell will be out on Monday. They are only doing the primary roads. Birch Hill road doesn't count, although normally it is very busy. It is a secondary road. We expect more snow through the night and tomorrow.

Some fun...
Some of my neighbours made an igloo.

Some loss...
Turn around from the igloo scene...
the wonderful Cedar of Lebanon which has stood for centuries is no more.

Bit by bit they have taken the huge branches off as they became dangerous. When one fell from the weight of the snow the other day, they decided to take the rest down. Somehow one feels as though there should have been a ceremony of sorts. I loved that tree. I could see it over the tops of the houses next to ours. It was beautiful in the sunset.

Here is a piece I made inspired by it sometime past. It is in the collection of a museum in Southport.

There have been other losses, too. One of the Contemporary Quilt Artists in the north had only recently recovered the losses in her studio from flooding this year and now look. Look at the posts from the 7th Jan onwards. The snow has caved the roof in. For a while it was only supported by her sewing machines!
