I like Thankful Thursday

This week I like the lush flowers and plants in the garden...
This was nearly ready to post yesterday, but I was on a deadline. So it has to be today.

So excited about the little seed 'helicopters' growing on the acer by the back fence.

They are so cute! Like little bright red flowers.

I thought I better take a photo of my husband's hosta before the slugs decimate it.

and the lovely red roses on our climbing rose,

AND ...
Do you remember they mystery plant by the back door?

Well it is doing the beanstalk thing again. But the cool thing is that my friend was here and used an app on her phone about identifying plants. It is a Plume Poppy!! Well, I must say I tried to find out sometime ago and did come up with that name, but really couldn't believe it. It bears no resemblance to any poppy I have ever seen!

finally, a few detail shots of the twirls on our neighbour's passion fruit,

A bit like the phone cords we used to have in the 'old' days.

I Like Thankful Thursday

Last week as I said, was a bit busy. I sorted out the rest of the rubble of my stuff moved because of putting in the lift. And of course, did too much. This week the body says, REST, please.
This new little blue stool was very helpful!
However! I did get the pattern cut and sewn to check what changes I might have to make to use it again.
So, I like that with a bit of remnant that someone didn't want, I have a 'wearable toile'! Which means it is near enough in fit, so that if I finish it off I can wear it. and the few changes are simple enough to go ahead with making it up in fabric I have been saving.
Yes, I could do the same with my bodice block which I already know fits me. But I wanted a refresher about patterns because I was to help my friend with some of her pattern fitting issues.
The main change? I wanted to try a square neck. But this one is a bit too wide. So I will adjust that on the pattern next time.
The back could do with a bit of help in the lower back, but it is good enough for some summer tops. now to hem it and bind the armhole.

I love my baby iron! This lovely little present I showed you early in the year, was brilliant for pressing the seams open without getting the ironing board out.

and also last week my sister sent me some photos of my Mom. Good to see she is doing well! Mom is in her 80's. She had a lovely adventure for Mother's Day weekend.
She flew from Maine to my sister's in New York. From there they drove to Detroit area to my nephew's place. My sister's other son drove up from Tennessee. So she was able to see her great grandchildren she had never met, and to see her grandson's again after a very long time.
This photo was at Letchworth State Park. But they also went to Niagara Falls and to a camp where Mom had worked one summer as a young lady. Now she is back home.

I went with friends from church on a walk Sunday. So glad for the walker! Pretty shattered by the end, but it was so lovely to have time to just chat.

I like Thankful Thursday

This week's likes.
I like very much a few days to think after having completed the Ramshackle refugee piece "But is it Safe?" I posted about it yesterday.

Also much joy over a wee royal babe!

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor
from here

and Great Excitement yesterday because my friends and I have been praying for years for this dear lady. What faithfulness, what endurance and fortitude! I pray Asia Bibi will settle in now safely getting to know daughters who grew up while she was waiting.

I am currently reading a book about the events around 1000-1066+ William the Conqueror and the other contestants for the Throne of England. Using what is known, but in a novel form. Warriors of the Dragon Gold.
I haven't got far because the print is very small, but I think it will be good. I hope! 3 of 4 books I attempted to read over the Bank Holiday were rejected after a couple pages. Too much about rude things and not enough about the story. I would rather read a good story than drag my mind through the gutter! I picked these up from a Charity Shop. They looked good, but were not my type.

But one of them was good. I like detective stories, quirky anti-types and stories set in another period.

The Norfolk Mystery - A bit of Poirot mixed with Wodehouse and a large bit of unique and often annoying detecting. 😵 Although the cover is a bit strange, I guess it is meant to be a tree and not an atom bomb? It is just funny (but not full of jokes...maybe British Humour?) and a good read. The detective is eccentric and wears you out reading about him!  You really feel you are reading a book written in the years before WW2, but it was published in 2013. So, for me this makes Ian Sansom a good writer.
I have discovered that there are other books in the "County Guide" series. So, those are on the list to look for next.

Anyway, something else wonderful.
The first peony bush is blooming. And the one next to it is thinking about it.

The yellow poppies have opened.

And I am about to do a project that doesn't take so much deep thinking. Many to choose from!! I don't know which one, but I am going to do something!

I like Thankful Thursday

I like progress! Today I began to see the progress on this Ramshackle piece, "But Is It Safe?".

The Thoughtful Man has finished painting the ceiling where the plastering had been done. Also, he set my table back in order. So, I have managed to get on with the Ramshackle piece I have been working on.

All the parts have been properly bound.

And I have started stitching sections together.

Someone, some time ago gave me a little bag of what they called “rug yarn”. I think if that’s what it is, it seems more like a thread they might have used to join carpet sections.

Anyway, it is just the right thing for this. There are other colours, too. I don’t know if I will stick with this colour throughout or use another colour.

I put white paper behind the herringbone stitching so you could see it better.

I might also add another row of herringbone over the first set. Not sure yet.
and then there is something about the deadline to consider! So, I better get the side pieces joined on before I think about that!

I like Thankful Thursday

This post is of very glad things! My studio is coming back together. Slowly. But I am liking the opportunity to rethink workflow dynamics. (or something like that!!)

Yesterday I got most of the debris back to its place.
The cupboards I used to hang work on, now are to the right as you come in, rather than straight ahead. I have the sweetie jars and whatnot up on the top. One of the cupboards is now upstairs, but just now holding books that I will put on the shelf. But it will hold some of the fabric that I don't work with often...a few more containers moved to give space.
Oh, and the computer desk is not wedged in the corner. Somehow it feels bigger! And it is lighter since I don't get the glare when I open the blinds.

The big cupboard is now straight ahead. Kind of scary to see the mess reflected back to you! Maybe it will help me keep the table clear! And sort the top of the cabinet...  The sewing machine is waiting for a clear out on the other end of the table. But I can access it at the moment if I need to.
gowns and C+G work on top
The Thoughtful Man has moved my gowns and other random things back down. Look how straight and organised the gowns are!
That's because he has helped me work out a better plan for some of the packaging I keep for sending work off. They will be fine in the garage and I won't have them crammed in the bottom in between gowns etc!
garments needing work and my art quilts on top/bottom
And then this side has garments I want to upcyle or alter. So much better than mostly boxes ready to fall out when you open the door! and as the side these were in was not easy to access, I was not inclined to work on them! I will cull some for charity (where I got them!) and try to redeem some of the others.

So, you have to wait for the rest! I am aching already from all the moving of things yesterday. But the Thoughtful Man carried all the gowns, quilts, etc down from the guest room.
Oh, and did you notice that 2 dummies can hide beside the lift? !! And one with the dress I need to finish is behind the door near the computer.

Thankful Thursday on Friday

What fun!

I found a choir when I was making salad the other day!

I wonder what they are singing?

For more Of what people like this week, the link is on LeeAnna’s blog.

I started this post, but wasn’t able to get back to it.
Today is a special day. A Thankful day. We are recently back from a service to remember God’ Love through Jesus on the cross. Looking forward to Sunday to remember He is alive.
As I read somewhere: It isn’t about the bunny but it is about the Lamb.
Not sure what you have for a belief, but this is very important to me a a big part of my life.

I like these reminders of new life all around.

Thankful Thursday

oops this one nearly slipped past me. I have been trying to get some order to my studio. However, I have to wait til the ceiling where they took the plasterboard is replastered at the end of the month.
Holly waiting for something interesting to happen in the kitchen.
I just was out with Holly, which is a bit of a circus when she goes from the right to the left and gets tangled round the walker...and will not reverse. She doesn't like reversing if she has decided she has to smell something.
Anyway, I tied her to the metal fence near the shops while I picked up my subscription at the chemist. Like I have done all these years we've had her. Mind you I don't do it often because of the circus stuff I mentioned above! It is Easter holidays, so 2 boys came by with scooters as I came out of the shops. She wasn't too sure when they started coming to her because she wasn't to sure about the noise of the scooters. As I was getting there, I asked if they wanted to pet her. I was about to say to rest their scooters and come to her on their own so she wouldn't be afraid.
I had seen a police car come into the shopping car park, but thought they were just doing rounds. Next thing I know, they walked up behind me and said. "Whose dog is this?"
'Mine!' I said. Oh. (I never did work out why they thought there was a problem.) I asked if it was alright to tie her there. (my husband ties her right in front of the grocery shop) They said it was ok. Still they seemed like they had expected something strange was going on
Anyway, they went away and the boys got to pet Holly. I don't know what that was about!
Holly back home and back to her important day job.

So, how was that an I like? Before we had gone to the shops, we went to the library. I wanted to pick up the rest of a series by Edward Marston from the local library. I got onto a different author for a bit, because I had to request these as they were held in other libraries around Bracknell. So, I am looking forward to reading them. This series is all about the Railway Detective.

That will have to be enough for today, as I need to go make dinner. We are having friends come for a meeting later this evening.

I like Thankful Thursday

To start with likes, this part is about a Post Rock.
We have a friend who has MS. She used to get out and about in her motorised wheelchair. She loves doing things for others, including writing notes. Such a precious lady to think of others when she had so much trouble herself. She used to ask me if she could get any shopping for me.😍
But she was unable to come up to our door to post a note into the letter box because there is a step.

So, we put out a Post Rock. She could reach down and put her little note under the rock so it couldn't blow away.
Often I would come out and discover the note. I do wish she somehow let me know she was there so I could go speak to her! But now Mr Thoughtful takes Holly to visit this lady instead. (Holly likes the biscuits (cookies) on offer for dogs that come visiting!

Actually, this is Post Rock 2. Someone pinched (stole) Post Rock 1. So, this Post Rock usually lives under the lavender there by the step. Our friend knew it was there, so she could use it and no one could take it.
This dear lady now is suffering from Alzheimer's, so she hasn't been around for sometime. But I leave the Post Rock there because it reminds me of her. That is why I took the photo. It seems like a little a face that makes the rock look mouse-like. She would love that!

As you know, I like seeing shapes and discovering what they look like. The same day I took the photo of the Post Rock, I saw this flint that looked like a mushroom.

It was in a section of rough paving for car parking.
When I looked at the full photo when I got home, I discovered there was a little animal skull-like flint near the mushroom.

Cool! What do you see when you are out and about.

And if you look back at other posts this week, you will see I finished the last quilt for the 70,273 Project. And no other photos, but I posted it yesterday. Hurrah! I like that it is no longer shouting at me from whatever pile I had moved it to. I like that I can at last move on to the next project, which I have already got a good start on!

I like thankful Thursday

As you know, I like 'finding' things in various shapes. One comment compared it to cloud watching.
So, here is a duck who has gone splat on his face. Why? I don't know. He was under the table where I had my restoring cup of tea before leaving the Knitting and Stitching Show the other week.

I like my cheerful cyclamen in the front garden.

The posh cyclamen got a bit of a beating from the snow the other week, but it has recovered and there are even more flowers. Kind of a challenge to keep on no matter what gets dumped on you?

I like discoveries. These photos of fungi are from around a tree stump behind our back fence. (I won't go into the story of the wonderful tree becoming a stump. It still makes me cross.)

I was coming back from the shops and these caught my eye. Behind the back garden fence.

Then I saw all these.

And then I realised there was a wide variety of fungi there! I don't think I have ever seen a black mushroom.

or translucent ones? not so great a photo. They were rather hidden.

growing up the different root sections of the tree stump.

I have seen images of the brownish flat fungi in the photos above, but there were also green versions.

and little brown ones

steps for fairies?
And those type were also growing in a patch of dead leaves.

Interesting. The leaves are interwoven with the fungi.
It makes it look like there was a small stump in the upper left corner.
But I know there was no small tree growing. I look out my bedroom window at the back garden and the trees beyond the fence most mornings. I like checking out this stump when I go to and from the shops. Anyway! I kind of overdid it on the photos! But I do like making discoveries when I am out and about.
