I tried one or two variations.

Linked Double Chain Stitch

It has been a long time since I have stitched on my paper project. Now the Sister Artist project is done and sent off, so needing something to do with my hands I picked it up.

So, here is number 36.

I had to look up another tutorial to get my head round the instructions, but after that the stitch was not hard to do.

Pekinese Stitch or Chinese Stitch

When I got around to doing this, I forgot that the base stitch was back stitch. So I started doing running stitch. When I realised I did the centre with the right stitch. Interesting to see the difference between them when it comes to the looping part using contrast thread.

Stitch on it-34

During the past weeks I also worked on my stitch on paper project. But I don’t get photos til today.

Cast on Stitch
At first I thought I didn’t know this stitch. But when I started doing it, I realised I is one of the stitches used in dressmaking. For instance for making a loop for a small button closing for a slit back neckline opening.

Right. I left you staring at the ‘not-Algerian Eye stitch’, but I did actually do a real one not long afterwards.

Stitch on it- 32

This is called ‘I tried to do Algerian stitch with 2 strands  of rayon thread but they didn’t work on paper, so I made a sun’. Or taking a break while you get your head around what went wrong.

Still,it is a good result!

Bonnet Stitch

Stitch on paper- This stitch was easy to work and to get into a rhythm. I might see if it looks different  in a straight line.

Stitch on it 28

At the Offcuts sewing group on Saturday, I forgot some of the bits I needed for the project I was going to do. I had brought the embroidery on paper project, so I decided to do that.

I look up the stitch and how to do it on Sharon Boggin’s Stitch Dictionary online. That was fine, but I couldn’t remember which stitch on my list was next. I forgot to look before I left. So I looked over some of the stitches on Sharon’s list. Rice Stitch caught my eye, so I have done that.

I thought I posted the stitch project in January.
But it didn’t go up. So, today you have the privilege!

Palestrina stitch -

Stitch on paper. This sample stitch was quite difficult to catch on to and then get a rhythm. I also tried the Long legged Palestrina Stitch.

Cable Chain Stitch
I have done this stitch before on fabric. Somehow it was very hard to keep the tension right doing it on paper. But I got there in the end!

Stitch on it - 24

I just realised I never posted the last Stitch on Paper sample. no. 24

Knotted Cretan stitch variations-embroidery stitch samples on paper. This kind of stitch sometimes takes a while to click!
Pardon for the stray threads! I did this around the 19th of October and took the photo with my phone. This was shortly after my cataract surgery, so I didn't notice them! 😕

Bullion stitch - 21
Stitch on paper

Well, I’ve not got on with this stitch before. Somehow doing it on paper made me persevere til I worked it out. What really helps is a needle whose eye doesn’t make the metal bow out at the sides. Slick and straight.
I used fine silk, hand quilting thread, sewing thread and crochet cotton. I intentionally loaded the needle with loads of wraps. around 30. I liked the bit of curl it gave to the line.

Stitch on it - 20

I have revived a project involving stitch. I do want to get on with the daily stitch idea I mentioned a few weeks ago but...

Some time back...well a few years ago, I was taking part in Take a Stitch Tuesday from Sharon Boggon's blog. Taking up the challenge to do something more with a stitch, I was embroidering these stitches onto paper. I had got to number 19 when I stopped. Not sure why by now! But I already had loads of paper squares cut.

So, since it is easier for me to start a new daily project, I will keep the daily stitch with the InStitches Threads for the New Year. And will give my mind a bit of practice by picking these back up. I will aim for 1 a week, but not restrict myself. (If I can't stay away from it. Ha. There are too many other things to do!)

So, starting where I left off.
no. 20 Crossed Buttonhole

I have never done this before. I looked on YouTube. Then I did about 3 of them and got lost. So, I got out one of my embroidery books and figured it out again. It took a while to work out how to get the cross parts to stand up rather than slant.
I used several different colours and types of blue.

The next square is blue with yellow thread. and a stitch I have never managed to do well at. So, we will see!

Stitch on it - 14-17

I am taking part in Take a Stitch Tuesday from Sharon Boggon's blog. Taking up the challenge to do something more with a stich, I am embroidering these stitches onto paper.

These first 2, Satin and Stem stitch have never been stitches I got on well with.
Satin Stitch including Diagonal Satin Stitch
But with the whole day at K+S, I managed to get the satin stitch better and better. Being done on paper, I did it stab stitch and not across the back. I didn't think the paper would hold up to the tension.

Stem Stitch
The Stem stitch was a little easier on paper, so I was able to get my head round how to do it well. I gave myself the challenge of going round curves. I didn't have a shape in mind, just went there. so when I got round the curve part, I decided to go straight round three sides and then realise to turn it sideways looked a bit like a C.
For most of these stitches I just freely stitch until I am happy with placement or until I start seeing a shape and then working to make it better.
