Something on Saturday

Also at the garden centre - (oops another cow!)

A strange Nativity scene.
These animals are all sorts of proportions. Plus, their heads move around.

Not so bad, but when you look into the manger itself, Mary and Joseph are scarecrows. Hmmm?😕
and the camel's movement is stuck, so it looks like he is nodding along to some tune. 'We 3 Kings?'
I made a video with my phone. I hope it shows up here.

If you stay to the end, that is me trying to get my phone to stop recording!

I like Thankful Thursday

I posted the other day that the cataract op was not Tuesday, but the very extensive testing and assessing was. So, having thought about it, although I am still seeing blurry, I am glad to know that they will be properly prepared for doing it right when it does happen.

I like things that have a bit of a funny side to them. I took this photo at the Festival of Quilts. The Quilt Police do exist!
One of the policemen at the NEC was invited to come see the Fly Me to the Moon exhibition. Susanne Jones' husband Todd had been chatting with him and got him interested in the project to commemorate the moon landings. Funny how many people immediately thought of the Quilt Police!

I recently read this book by Jenny Colgan. Somehow I thought I was looking on the shelves for crime fiction, but they had morphed into adult fiction. So, it was a lovely story and the character begins to believe in herself.

I have just read the next one, which, having become fond of the characters in the first one, does cause you to go through a little angst with them. But still, I think I like this format and will look for some of the others about a character starting up a business...especially a food business!

Speaking of baking...
This photo shows how difficult it is to get a quick photo without being caught at it! Very blurry. Even to my eye!
As I write this, The Thoughtful Man is baking a gluten free and etc free cake! Coconut and Raspberry. Now there is a combination that should be interesting. We will have it tonight when friends come round...including one who is also trying to be gluten free.

I am trying to get back into making work. Most of the summer was too hot. Also, there was the Festival of Quilts and then trying to do things so I wasn't worrying about cataract surgery.

Presently, I have been spending time discovering things on my new phone.
I was already 'following' some artists on Instagram by saving the link on my computer and checking it like I would a blog. Now with a clever phone, I am able to follow properly and also post some of my own. My Instagram found here. I like that it is a lot quicker than downloading from my phone, then editing and sorting the size and then putting them on Blogger.
I can still do blogger by getting those photos and adding others here. I can say more here. But also, I can keep the blog a little more personal and the Instagram a little more professional. It seems there are more responses, too. Plus, I have found loads of art that interests me and I don't have to keep going back to a blog to check what I missed.
sandysnowden5 Yes, somehow I didn't catch that they added the 5. I could have done my middle initial or something. Still, SandySnowden5? at least it isn't something like sandysnowden138!

Well and oh well

The appointment for my cataract surgery today was not, as I believed, the surgery. It was the assessment appointment to be put onto the waiting list. 😕

So, many drops, many tests, many lights shining later, this.
Scary?
What positive?
Ok, you normally don't see your eyes when they are fully dilated, because that is when it is dark and you can't see your eyes in the dark without light, which then makes them not dilated.
So, the photo.
I look like I have cartoon eyes. 😵

After a nap, both eyes a bit blurry round the edges, but I have nearly got the dark red dress done that I didn't finish before FOQ.
and I am trying something to alter a blouse with sleeves that are too tight.
If I have to wait, I will see what I can do to accomplish something sensible in the meanwhile.

Plant Identification help needed.

After yesterday's post, I thought I would show you photos of the leaf of this plant by the back door.

I love the leaves. They remind me of the Mandlebrot set. (If you follow that link, scroll down past alot of the maths to see what a mandlebrot set looks like...very like my leaves!)
Somehow, they look like this when they are small (even newly grown wee small ones look like this, but I haven't a picture.)
and also when they are bigger.
this one was growing further up the plant.
The leaves can get very huge! and still look the same.

They grow very tall with grass like flowerheads. But it dangles like cornsilk with little tiny tags/seeds that rustle in the wind. It looks lovely with the sun behind it!
It grows very fast, and inspite of it being chopped back to the ground each year, it comes back just as vigorously.

Any clues? If not, maybe I will wait and ask again when I can take a photo of the flower/seedhead.

Something on Saturday

As we were in Filey last week, I didn't post a cow.
But, I took a photo of an interesting one!

Cow 24
I said to my son. This is a bit confusing. It is dressed in a waistcoat and tie like a bull, but has udders.

He laughed at me...Nevermind that it is a cow standing up eating an ice cream.

Oh, yeah. small point.

And for today.

Cow 25

A Beswick Ayreshire Calf

Ok. this is spooky. I just did a Google search just to find out the breed of this calf and discover it is worth some money! Depending on who wants it. Hmm.
It was produced til late 70's. Perhaps I picked it up at a jumble sale or something? Or someone else did and gave it to me. I can't remember.

And some of my others show up on the search, too. I need to look at their tummies. I only knew this was Beswick when I went to take the photo.

Well, there we are!

random

In lieu of posts, you can see what sort of figure you can detect in this random wet spot in the washing up bowl.

And I will get on with having headaches and 96th birthday gatherings.

A random sock post

Okay, here is another story for you.
Quite a few years ago, I had a favourite pair of socks (because they were black with turquoise).

Then one day - possibly after the Thoughtful Man was doing the washing and I was ill or away - I could only find one. No one had any idea what could have happened to it. And unlike when they ask me, they couldn't offer any suggestions or possibilities.

Since they were my favourite pair of socks (because they were black with turquoise), I kept the found sock on the top of the drawer set in the bedroom for some time.
At some point, our washing machine died and we got a new one. I got The Thoughtful Man to look in the trap...just in case the washing machine had eaten it. To no avail.

Eventually, still hoping against hope that I would find the other since they were my favourite pair of socks (because they were black with turquoise). I put them in a drawer.

Fast forward to preparation for the Pancake night on Tuesday. I am looking for the white lace tablecloth that makes using a single sheet for a tablecloth look fairly posh(when the dining room table is extended fully). Not where it should be, in the chest of drawers that serves as tablecloth and dish towel storage in the dining room.

Perhaps it is in the airing cupboard. Sometimes I dry it there as it is so fine it does no good in the tumble dryer. No lace tablecloth.

However...under a pile of towels at the back...

The other half of my favourite pair of socks (because they are black with turquoise)!

So I wore them yesterday...and then wished I hadn't because they are better for warmer weather. But still...

To be honest, when you wear them, you can't see the turquoise because it is under your foot, and the top bit is under your trouser leg.

Oh, I never found the lace tablecloth. I had to use the smaller cream coloured one for when the table is small.

Oh no!

Somehow I deleted my blog list! Smiley

Now to try to get it back.

Busy this week preparing for the TVCT meeting on Saturday. Will post something soon.

EDIT: Okay, I think I got most of them. and some that I have been visiting frequently via links on other's blogs. If I have missed out a favourite of yours, let me know. It took ages because I couldn't add but one at a time!

computers

Just popping in to say my computer, which was growling last week, and running tooo slow this week. Stopped yesterday. I had preset the post for yesterday.

The Thoughtful Man has been getting a few more hours from it here and there, so got it going again and ordered a new one. Today I had a blue screen with all sorts of scary info on it. and he has once again jump started it.

But I won't tempt fate by trying to upload the progress with the maps, but there has been some...progress, that is. A new laptop came before dinner... we have a meeting tonight. But hopefully The Clever Thoughtful Man will have sorted things by tomorrow.

He backed everything up last week. I have been retaining the photos in my camera for now incase the uploaded ones get lost in the transfer.

Cross fingers and hopefully see you tomorrow!

What is it?

My computer is being slow and it is late, so here is a teaser of what I have been up to today.

What do you think this might be?
