Postcards 36

Another postcard for my family member.
In the post -

Just a few scraps and a bit of scribbling. Inspired by sunset/sunrise jigsaws I have been addicted to distracted by lately.

Well, actually it has been helpful to do something mindless instead of working on into the evening on things. I have been keeping more sensible working hours in the studio and I think I have been more productive because of it. Not starting exhausted from overdoing the previous day.

Postcards 35

Another postcard for my family member.

Another dog shaped scrap. So this is a 'Woof' from Holly to Patch, her dog.

Postcards 34

When I tried out the letter/map idea for ALAW. I decided to do something I could use for a postcard for my family member.

Her name starts with A and she is in West Yorkshire. So, I did a combo of that and placed it onto a postcard I had already fused fabric to.
So, Holly came with me to the post box in the howling gale yesterday and it is on its way!

Postcards 33

Another funny little scrap. Now on a postcard and on its way.

This scrap looked like a strange elephant.

I always have been able to see something in shapes...like the idea of looking for shapes in clouds. Carla Sonheim does a lot of that by finding imaginary animals in strange patches of torn posters on lamp posts or cracks in the pavement. She has a book called Drawing and Painting Imaginary Animals: A Mixed-Media Workshop. That and other books can be found here.

You can get her newsletter where she sends a photo of cracks and you send in your found 'blobimal'. She is doing an online class a Year of Fairy Tales for 2014.

Lots of links. Lots to see!

************
I might be a bit patchy this week. I am trying to cope with a bit too much pain, so anything I get done this week will be a plus. Things may have to be crossed off the to do list.
But hopefully it is just a flare up, and I shall be at coping level again in a few days.

Postcards 32

Should be in the post today.
I found this scrap whilst fusing the pages of the sketchbook. It looked like a little dog, so I decided it was! My family member's dog is quite old and often stands like this - trying to work out what is happening. She had quite a few dogs and this is the only one left, so perhaps he really is wondering just what is missing.

Postcards 9 and 30

While I was in Yorkshire after Christmas I saw the family member who I have been sending postcards to. She had the pile of them on the mantelpiece. I was able to get photos of number 9 and number 30 which I had sent off without getting a photo.

So, here you are.
no.9
I wanted a photo of this one because it went with the Ramshackle series. But I couldn't remember just what I had drawn on it. So, now I know I can do a few more with some of the other motifs that make up those pieces.

no.30
I mentioned that this one was unique. I made the flying lady out of scraps from map no.10. The shapes were left from cutting out so I thought I'd see if they could become something.

A bit random, but still...

Recipe cards

Several of my friends asked me for recipes for the various things I made from pumpkin.

I didn't get to writing them down til yesterday. The weekend has been busy. Mince pies for shoppers on Saturday (I made biscuits again, but simplified the shapes.) and Candlelight Carol service on Sunday.

Since these recipes are from American sources, I needed to 'translate' them. Americans use the volume method of baking - measuring with cups. The Brits use the weight method of baking - weighing the ingredients with a scale.

Anyway, I decided to use the idea of the post cards and make them a bit special. I had some scraps of novelty fabrics which seemed just right.

There were actually ten altogether. I also did the cornbread recipe for one of the ladies but forgot to add it into the photo.

I think I am mostly ready for the Holiday now. We are going up to see my husband's mother and sister for a couple days. Leaving after the Christmas morning service. Then A Certain Young Man comes back from America for a couple weeks. He gets in on the morning of the 28th. I have been baking and freezing things for then as well. I probably won't post much this week. So I hope you and your family enjoys the Holiday Season!

Postcard 31

Sorry I forgot to photograph number 30. And it was unique. hmm. Perhaps I can ask to photograph it when I see my family member after Christmas.

Anyway, This is no. 31 which should be arriving there, today.

Simple, but it goes with some of what we were discussing lately and so what I have written on the back.

The fabric was a scrap from a recent blouse I made.

Postcards no. 3 for a friend

I used another fabric scrap and drew into it for a postcard to send to another friend who has been in and out of hospital this week.

Postcards no. 28 and no. 2

I have been using purchased postcards to send to my family member, so the numbers have skipped up a bit.
This one is on it's way.
no.28
This was a scrap of fabric from the skirt I recently refashioned into a blouse! Just that much different when there is a little colour.

Also, my mother-in-law was in hospital for some tests this week, so I have done one for her as well. I haven't been sending them regularly to her, just now and then. So, this is no. 2

This post is now linked to Off the Wall Friday at Nina-Marie's.

Postcard 24

The Postcard I am sending off this week.
Scrips and scraps of butterflies coming to life.

Postcard 23

I tried the colour scheme of the last postcard (for my friend) and have posted it off to my family member.
Just something a bit different on this scrap to focus on for the postcard.

Postcard 21+22 and extra

Postcard 21 and 22 were textile artist cards I sent to my family member. I didn't take photos.

Here is another card from bits of the red batik which I worked into it with Triplus Fineliner pens.
I popped it into my friend's letterbox this weekend to welcome her back from a holiday adventure.
I think I will try that colour scheme again!

Postcard 20

Scraps of a batik fabric, worked into with Triplus fineliner marker.

Monday, 29 July 2013

Postcard 19

Just a bit of working into the markings on this fabric using Staedtler Triplus fineliner markers.

Postcard 18

The 2 main fabrics looked like they would be fun together, and then I found the purple strip for a triadic colour scheme.

Then I found the whimsy animals in the coral fabric and the trees in the lime green. But then they didn't seem to relate. So a few bunnies came to live at the bottom of the tree.

I have written -" A bit of whimsy" at the back.

Postcard 17

I really like the things Carla Sonheim does with the imaginary animals she finds in the anomalies in pavement cracks or peeling paint. Kind of like finding shapes in the clouds. I do that sort of thing myself, but don't always take it anywhere.

But I had this bit of fabric I made when teaching to demo colour schemes with dye. As I looked at it, I found this sad poodle-ish creature who has had a bad hair day!

I hope it will make my family member have a bit of a chuckle!

Postcard 16

I couldn't bring myself to throw this bit of fabric away, though it seemed too small to use. But I am glad I kept it. Checking out scraps, I realised I could develop the markings into this scene.

Postcard 15

Here is the postcard that has gone off to my family member this week. She is getting to the final cycle of treatment, but it is an everyday thing.

I was going to draw a bit of 'ramshackle' onto this, but it seemed more like an old book. So, I kept it simple.
